I love this road trip I take from San Antonio at least twice a year! It's Texas Hill Country so your scenery is going to include plenty of hills, oak trees, orchards, plenty of bodies of water like lakes, rivers, and ponds, and some really neat historic towns along the way. I really had no idea such a lush area of Texas existed when I moved here from Washington state but this is my scenic escape whenever I start to see too much shades of brown and tan in the summer.
Towns/Cities You'll Pass By/Through
I love the towns along this road trip and each time I take the ride I find new favorite places to stop. If you take this ride, you really need to stop and take your time looking around Bandera, Kerrville, Fredericksburg, and Blanco.
Attractions & Points-of-Interests Along the Way
There are museums along the way but I don't remember any specific names. Plenty of shopping for crafts, art, & antiques. Hotels and places to stay over night are available throughout the path.
Fredericksburg has a great historic area that you need to check out and it's positioned pretty much at the half way point of this road trip so plan on doing lunch hear and ask the locals for sightseeing advice. The area has some great ethnic German restaurants that I suggest you stop at.
Additional Information
Like I said, we take this road trip at least once a year. The area is beautiful although its starting to get more crowded. If you want to avoid crowds consider a weekday excursion!

Comments: We just came back from this road trip. It was nice and I would recommend doing it. However, I would caution against driving any of it at night because of the many deer accidents that happen there (I assume mostly at night). We had a deer accident on the stretch from Bandera to Kerrville, just after we were warned by ranchers in Bandera and so we were driving much below the speed limit. This is probably what saved us from injuries and the car was not too badly damaged (one headlight was broken), and the deer was not killed. It was shocking and frightening nevertheless and I could not sleep well the following night. Then, on 290 from Fredericksburg to Austin we counted 12 dead deer on the side of the road---there was one every few miles. So if you go for this road trip, really the only way to minimize your risk of deer accidents is to drive it all during daylight.

Comments: I'm from the Texas coast and took this ride when I was up in San Antonio visiting some friends. I was amazed at the scenery and rolling hills as there is nothing like it where I'm from. I've been up there twice since the original ride and even taken my in-laws who raved about how nice of a drive it was. Highly suggest this trip if you want to take a spin through the most beautiful part of Texas I've ever seen!!

Comments: This run through the Texas Hills Country is fantastic! You really can't go wrong touring this area but this particular path does a great job of stitching together some nice towns.
