This little hidden gem of a drive is located in a part of Michigan that not many people visit for scenic drives. Once you find yourself on scenic highway M-25 north of Port Huron, you'll be taken over by the sense that you're somewhere else. This route follows the contour of the thumb and frequently brings you close to Lake Huron. You'll also see some beautiful pastoral vistas along the way. This is a one-day trip, but if you can make more time for the trip, you'll be glad you did. Spend some time in Port Austin and enjoy that good 'ol Michigan hospitality.
Towns/Cities You'll Pass By/Through
Small towns dot the path of this road trip. The roads are not congested and generally in good shape. North of Port Huron, M-25 it's mostly 2-lane - no dirt or gravel roads. Be wary of wild turkeys crossing the road.
Attractions & Points-of-Interests Along the Way
Situated at the very tip of the thumb, Port Austin, offers inexpensive lodging; the Garfield Inn has great food and nice rooms, you will also find some eateries and taverns south of the harbor breakwater, on the main strip. Harbor breakwater provides an outstanding view of the lake and the town inland. Fishing charter boats are also available here.
